$0.04 per kilowatt hour

There's a lot of interest in the cost of energy consumed in data centres at the moment. Desktops are getting virtualised onto servers, servers are being consolidated onto dense farms of virtual OS instances on blades, and it's all drawing more and more power per square metre.

There's an interesting reference point in Data Centre Knowledge's article about Apple's new data centre in North Carolina. It suggests "Apple will be paying close to $0.04 per kilowatt hour". A blog on this at ZDnet claims that costs in California are in the $0.07 to $0.10 range.
